It is the steady rain rather than the torrential downpour that makes the grass grow and the flowers bloom.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, it is tempting to expect lightning and tempests when it comes to our love lives.  Given the messages we see around us in media and in society, you might imagine that your love life should be filled with romance and passion. It’s easy and natural to compare ourselves to others, especially the sanitized version that most people share on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites. You could quite easily conclude there is something wrong with your relationship and therefore you or your partner if your love life doesn’t feel like a thunderstorm of passion.

I would challenge you to let go of those expectations or judgements. Perhaps ask yourself what you could gain by letting go of wishing for something more or different and instead recognizing what is present and real.

Can you find a way to be thankful for the rain?
